Brief introduction of research:
Gongcheng Zhang received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in 1988 from Northwest University and obtained Ph.D. from China University of Geosciences (Beijing) in 1994 with a special field of exploration and geology for oil &gas. After graduated he worked as a geologist in CNOOC for nearly 20 years. During 1997-2003, his work focused on shallow oil/gas reservoir in Bohai bay basin. From 2004 to the present, he focuses on Petroleum Geology in deep water of South China Sea. He recognized the importantance of coal-measure source rocks in China offshore basins exploration and gave a new understanding of Source Rocks and Heat controlling ordered Fields distribution of “outer oil generation and inner gas generation” in South China Sea. To date he has published 55 papers and 5 monographs.
