Qingdao is affiliated to Shandong Province, referred to as Qing, formerly known as “Jiaoao”, otherwise known as “Qindao” and “Island City”. It is located in the southern part of Shandong Peninsula, located at 119°30′~121°00′ east longitude and 35°35′ north latitude. 37°09′, bordering the Yellow Sea in the east and south, adjacent to Yantai City in the northeast, Weifang City in the west, and Rizhao City in the southwest. It is known as “Oriental Switzerland”.

The Qingdao area was formerly known as Jiaoao. In 1891 (the 17th year of Emperor Guangxu of Qing Dynasty), the Qing government decided to set up a defense in Jiaoao, and Qingdao was built. On June 2, 1949, Qingdao was liberated. After the liberation of Qingdao, it was changed to the provincial city of Shandong Province.

Qingdao is the first batch of coastal open cities, Chinese coastal cities, national historical and cultural cities, national civilized cities, national health cities, national garden cities, national forest cities, and the most happy city in China. As the world's beer city and the world's sailing capital, Qingdao is the leading city in the core area of Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone approved by the State Council. In 2017, the national GDP list was released, and Qingdao ranked 12th with 1103.7 billion yuan.

In January 2019, Qingdao was selected as one of the "Top 20 WFBA World Charismatic Cities in 2018" list. In the same month, Qingdao was selected as one of the “Top 50 WFBA China's Top 50 Investment Potential Cities” list.
