Research Area:

Geoscience teaching and learning, sediment source identification, erosion, sedimentation, renewable energy, multicriteria evaluation, and GIS applications in decision making.


Research Experience:

Dr Nawaz has over 25 years of research over a broad range of issues relating to catchment management, sustainable development, sediment budget, and geospatial science teaching and learning. Before joining NUS, Dr Nawaz worked as Lecturer Earth Systems, and Lecturer Environment Science eLearning at Charles Darwin University, Australia and before that, he has worked as Associate Head/Assistant Professor at GIS Centre, University of the Punjab, Pakistan.

He has conducted multi-disciplinary research relating to geospatial science teaching and learning, and empirical research relating to erosion and sedimentation, sustainable development, and catchment management in several catchments including Darwin Harbour and Daly River catchment, Australia, Mangla Reservoir catchment, Pakistan, and Saddang Watershed, TanaToraja, South Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Dr Nawaz’s expertise includes sediment source identification, erosion, sedimentation, renewable energy, multicriteria evaluation, and GIS applications in decision making, and he has recently co-edited a book “Sustainable Energy and Environment: An Earth System Approach”, accepted/approved, CRC Press, a Taylor & Francis Group, outline available http://www.appleacademicpress.com/sustainable-energy-and-environment-an-earth-system-approach/9781771887632 , tentative publication date, July 2019.

Dr Nawaz has been awarded a doctorate degree in Geospatial Science from the Charles Darwin University, Australia, Master of Science in Geoinformatics from the International Institute of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) – University of Twenty, the Netherlands, Master of Science in Geography from the University of the Punjab, Pakistan and Bachelors of Science from the Bahauddin Zakariya University, Pakistan, and Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning from Charles Darwin University, Australia.
