Title: Visualization Of 3-D Wind Load System in Sustainable Bamboo Frame Green Design for Post-Disaster Shelter

A natural disaster is a major adverse event resulting from the natural process of the earth that will occur in unexpected time. There are many losses of life and property damages during natural disasters. One of the solutions of a safety is to construct a house in a short period of time in such as emergency shelters for disaster victims. The analysis on sustainable bamboo emergency shelter was carried out by using different velocities of wind speed. The computation of visualization for the 3-D wind load system using sustainable bamboo frame design was done by means of engineering software. The ANSYS fluent software was used for computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analysis. The simulation of wind load on emergency shelter was done in order to identify the pressure distribution on its surface.

Title: Overcoming Barriers of Implementation: Empowering the future of IBS in Malaysia

This paper presents an insight on the effort of implementing Industrialised Building System (IBS) in Malaysia. The introduction of IBS in Malaysian construction industry is intended to address current problems such as poor site condition, too much dependency on foreign workers, low productivity, poor quality, and high wastage. The 10 years Construction Industry Master Plan (CIMP) was designed to help Malaysia chart its way forward and capitalize on new technologies for the construction sector. As the technology is concern, the approach that was encouraged and much favoured by the government in the master plan is the IBS. IBS is becoming more popular in some developed countries as it has become an important and cost effective concept in today’s fast track construction culture. To promote the usage of IBS, government formulated IBS Road Map 2000-2010 and its extension Road Map 2011-2015 to highlight and promote the benefits such as reduced construction time, better site management, reduced wastage which will ultimately produce better products for the customers.  Despite all efforts, the level of implementation was found to be low and various strategies and have been proposed to empower the implementation of IBS in construction industry in Malaysia. This paper focuses on overcoming barriers for better implementation of IBS in Malaysia. It defines IBS in Malaysia context and analysing barriers identified. The strategies to overcome the barriers will be proposed for to increase the level of implementation of IBS in Malaysia.

Title: Urban Regeneration  – The Case of Hong Kong

Conventionally, urban regeneration schemes initiated by the private developers are not that different from other trading activities.  A developer purchases property rights from the suppliers, who are the property owners in the renewal neighbourhood, for a price.  Once the deal is done, the suppliers are out of the picture and the developer moves on to manufacture his own products.  From the institutional economic perspective, this is a classic example of market governance structure.  However, in some rare occasions, the developer or even the government may choose to form urban partnerships with the individual owners with an objective to carry out urban regeneration schemes more effectively.  A more interesting issue is whether individual property owners in the renewal site can actually participate in this partnership and contribute to the renewal outcome.  This paper shows two different cases of urban partnership in the process of urban regeneration in Hong Kong, one of the most compact cities in the world to illustrate how these partnerships may or may not work from an urban management point of view.

In this presentation, the main problems of urban regeneration that Hong Kong, faces will be introduced from a city management point of view.  Following this introduction, two cases of partnership-based urban regeneration models will be examined, and a conclusion will be drawn.
