Title: Biomass Properties and Its Conversion Technologies

Abstract: Biomass contributes to the energy and environment of society due to its higher heating values and lower gas emissions. This presentation introduces the research work of biomass properties and its conversion technologies, which were conducted by the researchers at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), China. The physical properties mainly include the moisture content, bulk density, particle size, and porosity of several biomass fuels including rice husk, rice straw, wheat straw, corn residues, etc. The chemical properties mainly include the chemical exergy of rice husk and woody biomass. The conversion technologies mainly covers air gasification of sawdust in entrained flow reactor, microwave-assisted air gasification of corn stover, microwave-assisted pyrolysis of brown coal, and microwave-assisted co-pyrolysis of brown coal and corn stover.

Title: Analyzing land-acquisition conflicts in China’s urbanization from the perspective of spatial justice

Abstract: The increasing land demand resulting from the rapid urbanization has led to rigorous social tension and intense state-citizen conflicts. It will threaten the social stability and sustainability without enough attention and effective solutions. Considering the existing focus on distributive fairness and its limited achievements, the paper analyzed the underlying reasons of land-acquisition conflicts from a comprehensive and new perspective that is spatial justice. Then, utilizing the content analysis and semi-structured interviews, the effect of three attributes of the spatial justice—democracy, diversity and equity on land-acquisition conflicts are further explored. Relevant political proposals are presented to mitigate the conflicts at the end of the paper. The results are beneficial to the sustainable development of China’s urbanization.

Title: Research on Multi-Optimization Operation of Microgrid

Abstract: Since the microgrid with distributed power supply has the advantages of flexibility and cleanliness, it has become an important part of the smart grid. In order to achieve the multi-objective optimal operation of the microgrid system, such as economy and environmental protection, the optimization strategy is used to solve the multi-objective optimization problem under the constraints of the system, and the multi-objective function model for optimal operation of the microgrid is established. The subpopulation hybridization operation is added into the particle swarm optimization algorithm, which makes it suitable for solving multi-objective optimization problems and applies it to the optimization operation of the microgrid. Taking the cost of power generation and environmental cost as sub-objective function, the simulation verification is carried out. The example results show that the algorithm can achieve multi-objective optimization operation of microgrid.
