Brief introduction of research:

Prof. Jinlong Zou is academic leader for Environmental Science at Heilongjiang University. His research topics include fundamental studies and practical applications such as microbial fuel cells (MFCs), environmental functional materials, material chemistry, and wastes treatment and disposal. Currently, his group mainly focuses on fundamental and applied research related to microbial electrochemistry. His group tackles fundamental understanding of biofilms on anode and the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) on cathode, focusing on transport processes and the development and optimization of MFCs technologies.  He also explores the relationships between electricity-generating bacteria and ORR to improve energy production. His works are conducted through cross-disciplinary and team-based research in the areas of engineering, science, sustainability, and biological design. With a seed funding from Chinese government (National Natural Science Foundation of China (51108162, 51210105014, 51578218) and Natural Science Foundation of Heilongjiang Province (B201411, QC2015009)), in 2008 his group establishes a laboratory equipped with high-quality facilities and starts research work on biological waste treatment. Later, he has secured several research grants from the funding agencies and industries, and has established co-operation with several international labs. Since 2011, he has published over 30 papers in international refereed journals, including Environmental Science & Technology, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Journal of Material Chemistry A, Carbon, Journal of Power Sources, Bioresource Technology, and Journal of Hazardous Materials, etc. This demonstrates that he has a good publication record in the relevant subjects of environmental science. In addition, he is a regular reviewer for over ten internationals journal.
