During the 1990s, my interests were on the role of the state in economic development, and the related issues on the globalization, including the emerging reasons of globalization, the impacts of globalization, trade issues and globalization, and economic development and globalization.
During the early 2000s, I started my focuses on China’s rising, its relationship with East Asian countries including the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations). And Cross-Strait relations between China and Taiwan were becoming more important since Ma Ying-jeou became the leader of Taiwan in 2008.In terms of regionalism, I focus on the China’s geoeconomic and geopolitical strategies in Southeast Asia and GMS (Greater Mekong Subregion) project. Recently, I concentrate my study on China’s One Belt One Road (OBOR). Other than those mentioned above, I have studied sustainable development, new institutionalism, institution and institutional changes, cultural identity and Cross-Strait relationship. One important remedy to solve the problems of disorder, instability is currently the fashioned concept of governance, and I have focused on the issues from global governance, state governance, to local governance. Basically, governance includes the public, the private and the third sector of the society. If these three parts can cooperate fully, the question in issue can be solved easily. All my publications since 2000 can be traced on http://web.thu.edu.tw/hcsung/www/.
