Research Experience:

Narentheren Kaliappen is a Senior Lecturer at AACSB accredited School of International Studies (International Business), College of Law, Government & International Studies, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). He completed his PhD at Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business, UUM in 2015. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Business Administration from UUM as well in 2009 and 2011 respectively. His doctoral thesis was entitled “Strategic Match and Effects of Competitive Strategy, Market Orientation and Innovation Strategy on Hotels’ Performance: The Catalyst for Economic Growth of a Nation”. He was conferred Distinguish Doctorial Dissertation Award by Academy for Global Business Advancement (AGBA) based in the United States at AGBA conference 2015 for his PhD thesis. He also published quite a number of journal articles in the field of strategic management and business administration in addition to presenting several papers at local and international conferences at Thailand, India and Vietnam. One of his research papers received 2016 Emerald Literati Awards for Excellence. In addition, he also received several Best Paper Awards from international conferences. Importantly, some of his research papers were cited in top tier journals (Q1 & Q2). He also published two books specifically on strategic management. Currently, he has three on-going research projects. Among the three research projects, one crucial project is on enhancing Malaysia’s hotel competitiveness. Recently, he was invited to deliver a speech entitled “Analysis of Investment Opportunities and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in Malaysian Tourism and Hospitality” at Global Conference on Business, Hospitality and Tourism Research (GLOSEARCH 2018) in Vietnam.
