Dr. Mohamed Shuaib Mohamed Saheed

Deputy Director, Center of Innovative Nanostructures and Nanodevices,

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia

Research Area:

Material Development, Sensing Technology, Water Remediation

Research Experience:

Dr Mohamed Shuaib successfully graduated with PhD in 2014 and steadily progress as research scientist and post-doctoral researcher in Center of Innovative Nanostructures and Nanodevices (COINN). For his PhD research work, he developed a low breakdown voltage ionization-based gas sensor utilizing vertically aligned multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) as the sensing element. He synthesized and optimized MWCNT with specific thickness that provides the impetus to identify various gases such as ammonia, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, argon and helium in low voltages by finger-printing. His previous work in development of MWCNT spurs him to developed various carbon-based nanostructured materials and hybrids such as millimetre-long MWCNT, stacked CNT, 2D graphene, 3D graphene, laser scribed graphene, CNT-metallic nanowires, and many more. Due to his extensive work in the field of nanotechnology, he was invited to write entries for Nanotechnology Encyclopedia, a national initiative by Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka. He is currently the deputy director for COINN. His current research interest is developing 2D materials such as MXene and transition metal dichalcogenides and exploiting their unique properties for applications in sensors and water remediations.
