Distinguished Professor, Dr. Stephen Brookfield has best summarized my major accomplishments and significant contributions succinctly: “I have been impressed with the leadership Dr. Wang has brought to the study of education, particularly the way this is informed by research drawn from adult education theory, instructional technology and transformative learning. Exercising scholarly leadership at this confluence of analytical streams has served the broader field of education admirably. In a discourse that is sometimes distinguished by empty rhetoric around an ill-defined notion of ‘transformation’ he has solidified our understanding of how to conduct research into the complexities of this learning process. Moreover he has done this in a way that enhances his already considerable academic credibility. His books and articles have gained him a solid reputation as an empirical and interpretive researcher of the highest order. In my own doctoral and master’s level courses at the University of St. Thomas, I cite his work and use his writings as part of the courses on leadership and organizational development that I teach. The breadth, depth and intensity of his experience—all of it critically examined—means that in his writing he speaks to educators in a voice rich with credibility and authenticity. His writing connects well with theoreticians but also with workers in the field of applied educational practice. To have a person on faculty who exemplifies the much cited (but rarely observed) idea of the scholar-practitioner is something for which any university can feel grateful. Dr. Wang is a veritable whirlwind of scholarly output and he has had a crucial role in serving the field by providing multiple opportunities for peers to develop their scholarly capabilities. The breadth and frequency of his academic work are both impressive and unusually productive.

Currently, Dr. Wang is co-editing the International Journal of Adult Vocational Education and Technology with a Columbia University Professor, Dr. Lyle Yorks and a doctoral student of Malcolm Knowles, Dr. John A. Henschke. Dr. Wang has won many academic achievement awards, including the Distinguished Faculty Scholarly and Creative Achievement Award. He has had extensive experience in chairing and mentoring doctoral dissertations (including dissertations from University of Auckland, New Zealand). Some of his books have been adopted as required textbooks by major universities in the United States and in China. In addition, numerous universities worldwide including some Ivy League Universities have cataloged his books and journal articles. Dr. Wang’s teaching (including teaching via technology) has reached many states in the United States and China.
